Abstract
Pneumoperitoneum generally results from a gastrointestinal perforation, and therefore, denotes an acute surgical emergency. Many series of pneumoperitoneum in the newborn, studied at various institutions. Show that the primary etiology is
necrotizing
enterocolitis (NEC). Also, there have been a greater number of critically ill neonates who can survive but require mechanical ventilation and who develop pneumoperitoneum. However, rupture can occur in any portion of the gastrointestinal tract
and
few
cases were associated with various congenital defects.
We experienced a rare case of sigmoid colon perforation complicated in anorectal malforation-imperforte anus and thus report the case and review related literatures.
